As part of the Laidlaw Research Scholarship, I have been working alongside Dr Nina Wardleworth looking at North African contribution to the French Resistance during WWII – in particular Algerian involvement. As part of this research, I have consulted the French National Archives in a trip to Paris as well as working in tandem with Mont Valérien Museum to enhance my understanding of this area. My research aims to expand our understanding of history and decolonising and changing discourse around how former colonies interacted with France and beyond. I contributed to a database of colonial soldiers who were in the French Resistance as well as producing specific fact files on certain soldiers to humanise and share their stories.

Hi, I’m Lizzie from Newcastle Upon Tyne and I study French and Business with a particular interest in Colonial History and how we can decolonise our ways of thinking. I have three dogs at home who I love taking on walks!
