Fallen Fathers and Cavalier Children, Restoring the Nation through Royalist Family Fictions

 I attended this research seminar because my interests in literature are mainly surrounding the Victorian period and as I am writing my dissertation on the later part of this period, I felt it may be interesting to discuss something thematically different but still relevant to the society I am investigating. I felt that the research seminar was well structured and presented in a way that gave me a lot to think about in terms of presenting my own dissertation topic orally and in written form. Although I did not have any background in these texts that Rosemary discussed nor a lot of historical knowledge about the English Civil War, it was good to challenge myself to think about and engage with a really unfamiliar topic. It was also good for me (as a Joint Honours student) to see how the bridging of my two subjects can be beneficial as it provided a rich analysis of literature using historical knowledge and details throughout, something I am aiming to achieve in my own dissertation.
