(De-colonising) The Curriculum

My presentation will focus on Black academics and the curriculum - particularly within Leeds. This is something that interests me because it feels like what we learn about is very eurocentric. I would also like to raise the issue of representation of lecturers of ethnic backgrounds. I feel as if there is a trend, our core modules aren't really focused on ethnicity and culture, these always seem to be the optional modules. But it is within these optional modules we find our lecturers who are from an ethnic minority background. As a person from a BAME background myself it is important to have representation not just in optional modules but in core modules too. This is a topic that has been brought up and it would be interesting to discuss further on ways to incorporate a less western style of learning to the
University of Leeds.
