Reporting the news for Linguistics & Phonetics
As part of a pilot scheme for a media internship, we are looking for two students to collect, write, and publish regular news updates about Linguistics and Phonetics on the University website. The plans are simple: to update the site whenever there is news to report, which hopefully will be fairly often. The RES students will contact staff and students for content which might include e.g. visiting speakers and other events in the department, the launch of research projects, lecturers’ academic successes (e.g. conference presentations and publications), student conferences, new staff joining the department, and other exciting events as and when they happen. The aim of this project is that staff and students of the department keep up to date with the great things that we do, we create a history, and those in the outside world (including prospective students) find out why Leeds Linguistics is great! There may also be scope for creating a feed across social media and other platforms.
News stories might be similar in content and style to news blogs at other Universities, e.g.

Relevant skills required:
- the ability to write in a clear, accurate, and engaging way
- confidence and initiative to find news stories, websavviness (or a willingness to learn)
Likely outcomes:
- Experience is collecting, writing and publishing news stories
- Expertise in Jadu, the University’s content management system
Hours per week: 2 (variable)
Duration: until the end of semester 2 2015
This project would be particularly useful experience for students interested in a career in PR or the media.
