Analysing and Measuring differences between the regional accents of Newcastle and Hull

My presentation will be based on a project I did as part of my Sociophonetics module, comparing the regional accents of Newcastle and Hull. These two accents are very different from each other, and both are very different the local accent here in Leeds.  The experiment involved one speaker each from Newcastle and Hull reading a short text in the lab. By analysing a couple of sounds, one consonant and one vowel, some sound variations between the two accents were observed and measured. The results give some insight into what regional and social factors contribute to the range of sounds present within the two accents.
